For people who care about their food

Five gifts for foodies

Never be stuck for gift ideas! Here are some of my favourites for foodies.

Activity Superstore

Activity SuperstoreAre you stuck for Christmas gift ideas for the foodie in your life? Have a look at Activity Superstore. They have a wide range of activities including cookery lessons, demonstrations, winery and brewery tours with tastings, Indian cookery, chocolate making, cupcake making, wine tasting, barista training, and even a cooking Masterclass with Jean-Christophe Novelli!

Whether you are a complete novice who can’t boil water or a culinary craftsperson, you will find the perfect progression for your skills amongst the Activity Superstore range. And for those fledgling foodies there is a kids’ cookery class aimed specifically at teaching good nutrition and making cookery fun.

Several of these activities are for two people so you could treat yourself too and go along with a friend. Some of the activities, for example the cup cake making, consist of kits so you can do these regardless of where you live in the UK. Others, such as the cookery classes, are held in various locations around the UK.

The Jean-Christophe Novelli experience is the top of the range and includes overnight accommodation at a top hotel in Hertfordshire. I think I’ll add this one to my wish list for Santa (although I don’t hold out much hope of him bringing it for me). Never mind, this could be the ultimate gift for a very special foodie.

Jean-Christophe Novelli

This one day course has been designed personally by Jean-Christophe to pass on his infectious passion and creativity with food along with an appreciation for fine wines. Using a range of seasonal produce and ingredients he will work with you in creating a specially designed menu. You will learn the secrets behind the correct use of seasonings from fresh garlic to chocolate to name but a few. As you watch Jean-Christophe cooking and demonstrating a wide variety of dishes and then make them yourself you will discover insightful tips and tricks that will stay with you forever. If you do struggle, Jean-Christophe is always on hand to help you. The course is always inspirational and enlightening and guaranteed to add new dimensions to your cooking.

Guests will arrive from 10.30am, and will be greeted with a tea & coffees. Once everyone is settled in the large, spacious kitchen, Jean-Christophe will enter and will begin the champagne reception. Throughout the day you will be tasting everything you cook and you will have an opportunity to sit down and enjoy it with a selection of wines. At the end of the experience you will be given a Novelli Academy Master Class Certificate and the chance to have a photo call and signings with Jean-Christophe. The course typically runs until about 6.00pm, although they can overrun. You will then head for your bed and breakfast accommodation, which is included in this experience, at a nearby 5* hotel.
